Work In Progress: Mega Man X: The Doctor Cain Chapters

“Edward, simply put, we want you to go to NV-09312,” Robert Ezell, the dean of Abel City University told Edward, breathing in the smoke from his pipe. Exhaling, he turned toward Edward and smiled. “We believe we may have found a new type of plant life from the Mesozoic; you are an expert in paleobotany, are you not?”

“Among other things, I studied paleobotany, yes,” Edward said, rearranging his glasses. Sometimes the damned things just didn’t sit right on his face. “But I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, sir.”

Robert smiled, taking another drag from his pipe, and placed his free hand on Edward’s shoulder. “You’re a bright young man, Edward. I saw you grow up here in Abel City, from the time I was principal of your high school to the day I was accepted as the dean of students here at ACU. I’ve never seen a more talented student with more degrees in the studies of very different things. I understand you just got a bachelor’s in Bio-Engineering, if I’m not mistaken.”

“I don’t think that’s the point, sir!” Edward yelled, clearly blushing. He wasn’t used to so much praise. “I think my question is… Why me, Mr. Ezell? You have plenty of students more talented in the field of paleobotany. “

“Because, Edward, I also think you may find more. The war buried a lot of things under the earth. Technology, art, and many other lost things may have been lost. I feel a man of your talent would be able to understand these things more than a simple paleobotanist.” Robert said, settling into his chair, the leather adjusting to his rotund body.  “A man of your talent deserves more.”
                                                                ....................
So why am I here, getting dirty and sweaty in this desert? Edward looked up into the blue sky. The war had left clouds of dust covering most of the western coast, leaving western America dark and dreary.  The clouds in this area were finally cleared by mechanaloids a couple of months ago. Thank God for the late Doctor Light, wherever he went. Edward paused, wiping the sweat off his brow. Doctor Light was his idol, a man he respected greatly.

Much like the up-and-coming scientist, Doctor Thomas Edison Light had been a man of many talents. He was a pioneer in the field of robotics and was the creator of the mechanaloids that now populated the planet. He designed his inventions for the betterment of mankind. He also synthesized many strong medicines and was an expert in bio-engineering.  Doctor Light, all those many years ago, was often referred to as the ‘Light of Mankind’.

Then he simply vanished. He left no trace, and as the war raged and the world at large fell apart, there was no ‘Light’ to look to. Eventually, the war ended and the world was on its way to recovery, with the mechanaloids tending to the more dangerous area. Where does a man of Thomas Light’s caliber disappear to? Edward pondered, rubbing the stubble that had begun to form on his chin.

“Doctor Cain! We’ve found something!! We’ve found something amazing!!” One of the student archaeologists yelled as he ran toward Edward. He stopped in front of the doctor, who was sitting at the entrance to his tent. He looked down at Edward, smiling. “You won’t believe it, sir!” Edward was hoisted to his feet by the student, dazed, he readjusted the hat on his head. Edward, flustered, turned to the student. “No-Now, hold on just a minute!” He managed to yank his arm free from the young man. “What is it you’ve found?”

“It’s a building!” The student smiled. He turned towards the dig site and pointed with his left index finger. “It’s a building, and there’s almost no damage done to it. It almost looks as perfect as the day it was open!” This piqued Edward’s interest. The war was nuclear; this whole area was hit, and now there is a pristine building? Edward gathered all of his research gear, and he was off to the dig site.
                                                   ......................
It was exactly as the student had explained; the building was in perfect condition despite the war. It was a miracle. There was no other way to describe this. “This is…” Impossible? He thought. No, I suppose some buildings were built with underground bunkers. Noticing some writing, he started to wipe away the dust from the wall. It read Light Labs Bunker #001. Edward was filled with a childish short of joy! Light Labs was at one time run by Doctor Light. I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS!! This could be the find of the century. “Have we found a door?” He turned to one of the workers.

“We haven’t yet, doctor,” the worker said, pickaxe over her shoulder. “We’re diggin’ around her, so I reckon we’ll be findin’ one soon.” Edward was ecstatic. To find a building his idol must have used! The idea was pleasing to him, and he wouldn’t stop until he opened this treasure trove of technology. Perhaps he’d find plans for a new energy source, or a new type of mechanaloids, or perhaps even a new kind of medicine. The possibilities were endless.

Just you wait, Doctor Light. I WILL discover your secrets, and succeed you as a ‘Light’ that can show the way for humanity!

Bio Time! Episode 1: Xavier 'X' Light

Age: 16
Sex: Male
Family: Dr. Thomas Light (Father), Dr. Edward Cain (Adoptive Father), Mary Cain (Adoptive Mother)
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Green
Height: 5' 6''
Weight: 175 lbs.
Specialization: Weapons Mastery, Negotiations

Bio:
Xavier Light (or X, as his friends call him) was found as an infant in the ruins of Dr. Thomas Light's laboratory by young scientist Dr. Edward Cain. Cain took it upon himself to raise the boy as his own, since his wife was discovered to have a hereditary defect and could not give birth to her own children.
X was a fast learner, incredibly adaptive and studious. He could speak coherently and read at a high school level at the tender age of two. At age eight, he was a freshman enrolled at Abel City High School. By age thirteen, X had graduated from ACHS, valedictorian.
X was not only well-learned, but well trained as well. He trained in most martial arts, as well as gymnastics and other such athletics. X was determined to better himself, body, mind, and soul. Despite being trained in so many fighting styles, X is gentle and dislikes conflict. He has never fought unless it was justifiably in self-defense.
When he was fourteen, X and Dr. Cain, with funding from the UN, carry out the 'Replicant Humanoid Project', using many of Dr. Light's incredibly post-modern theories in conjunction with Dr. Cain's own. Using many DNA combinations, Dr. Cain creates the fist two 'Replicant Humanoids'  using a synthesis of his and X's DNA. Of all DNA structures, X's was the most used and instrumental in the creation of the Reploid race.
Shortly after his fifteenth birthday, the first 'Mavericks' (renegade Reploids) begin to appear. Seeing as the Reploids were superior to humans in almost every aspect, Dr. Cain, X, and the last of the first generation Reploids named Sigma, are among the founding members of INTERPOL's new 'Special Reploid Tactics Law Enforcement Unit', or 'Maverick Hunters', as it is more commonly called. X, with his strong sense of justice, is one of the first field agents.
X serves in the 17th Special Anti-Maverick Unit, led by Sigma, a Reploid reputed to be the ideal leader and soldier. X is known for his ninety-five percent mission completion rate. He is an extremely skilled hunter, acknowledged by his peers as the third best behind Sigma and his best friend, Zero, with whom he has served many missions with and shares a brother-like bond.
Now, X finds himself in the middle of a great conflict, one that will test his sense of justice and his bonds with his comrades...

A Timeline of a Story I've Been Working On...

April 8th-15th, 21XX AD: During an expedition/archaeological dig for Mesozoic plant life, a young ambitious scientist named Dr. Edward Cain stumbles upon the ruins of an old laboratory. As he explores the ruins, he discovers the facility belonged to one Dr. Thomas Light, a famous scientist known for his advancements in medical and robotic technologies. He reads the records of Dr. Light, mostly intact due to the advanced technologies he developed. Eventually, he stumbles upon a large capsule attached to a large computer terminal. He notices the 'X' markings surrounding the capsule, and decides to examine the terminal. He discovers that the capsule contains Dr. Light's genetically altered infant son, Xavier. He pries the capsule's protective shielding off, revealing the baby. After a short period of study, the capsule mysteriously opens, with the terminal denoting the end of a thirty year diagnostic. After the purging of cryogenic material, Dr. Cain takes the baby into his arms and makes for his home in Abel City.

A period of fourteen years, 21XX AD: Dr. Cain and his wife Mary raise Xavier Light as their own son, amazed at his astounding growth and adaptive manner of learning. By the age of 13, he had already completed schooling through high school. It is during X's fourteenth birthday, that Dr. Cain establishes his 'Replicant Humanoid' theorem, which the UN approves of in the wake of recent work shortages and pollution problems. The Replicant Humanoids, or 'Reploids' for short, are genetically altered humanoids based on Xavier's DNA who could do not only the work of the average man, but also work in dangerous, polluted zones of the world, as they are stronger and more resistant than humans. Within a year, Reploids make up forty-seven percent of the world's population.

April 15th, 21XX AD, Shortly After Xavier Light's 15th Birthday: Several Reploids in Abel City turn towards their weaker human peers and causes havoc throughout the city, causing crime throughout the city using their superhuman attributes. In the wake of these crimes, and the rise of these 'Maverick' Reploids, Dr. Cain, his latest Reploid Sigma,  and INTERPOL form a special paramilitary police unit called the 'Special Reploid Tactics Law Enforcement' which would later be known by a more popular title, the 'Maverick Hunters'. It's during this chaotic starting period for the Hunters that Sigma confronts the 'Red Demon', a world famous and powerful Maverick who appeared during the outbreak. Sigma eventually incapacitates the 'Red Demon', though he loses his right arm. He takes the Maverick back to Maverick Hunter Headquarters and eventually tames him. The former Maverick reveals his name is 'Zero', (this is thought to be an alias, no one knows what his true name is.) Zero and Xavier eventually become the best of friends through several operations together.

June 4th, One Year Later: Sigma suddenly calls the Maverick Hunters under his command together and incites rebellion against the Maverick Hunters, and the world at large. Xavier feels betrayed, but through the help of Zero, regains composure, and joins the Maverick Hunters in a new war.

This is what I have so far. Yes, as if you couldn't tell, it's my attempt at a gritty reboot of Mega Man X, replacing the robots with superhumans. More details to come in the near future. I have a lot of material written out, and it will eventually be posted here.

New Gundam Story Idea

While typing up some stuff for Mobile Suit Gundam: Beyond War Chronicles, my Gundam fanfiction that continues the Universal Century timeline, it came to me that I should consider an alternate universe setting after I finish said storyline. What hit me was the idea of a G Gundam storyline that takes place some odd 20 years after the events of the series. The main character would be a hardboiled detective who was also secretly a Gundam Fighter. He is sent to Earth from the Neo America colony in order to find several missing scientists from around the colonies. He eventually crosses paths with a dark organization, their dark goal being the revival of a certain destructive weapon. What do you think?

New blog, y'all.

Hey, this is where I'm going to start putting down any ideas for any of the many stories I have in my head that will (probably/most definitely) never get written, but at least you'll get a look at my creative mind!
